Heard on the Street....(and under it)

BREAKING NEWS

IF HISTORY IS OUR GUIDE...

WE SHOULD EXPECT

  • Periodic inspection cycles

  • Condition classifications

(SAFE / SWARMP / UNSAFE)

  • Structural Engineering Evaluations

  • DOB NOW filings

For now, consider this a

“keep your eye on it” moment.

If you’ve spent any time navigating NYC projects, you know the City has been steadily tightening the inspection net around facades, parapets, and parking structures.

SO WHAT’S NEXT...

👉SIDEWALK VAULTS

Nothing formal just yet, but based on recent conversations with DOB there’s growing certainty around a future inspection framework—and possibly a new designation (we’ll call it the “QVI” for now… Qualified Vault Inspector).

IT WOULD MAKE SENSE

Vaults sit directly beneath the public right-of-way, often out of sight, but very much part of the structural equation. As the City continues to prioritize pedestrian safety, these conditions are hard to ignore.

“HOW PONTE POSITIONS YOU FOR WHAT’S NEXT?”

As these requirements begin to take shape, early positioning will be critical.

Ponte serves as a trusted resource to help ownership teams get ahead of potential mandates—connecting you with qualified experts, organizing informed inspections, and translating findings into clear, actionable budget frameworks.

Just as importantly, we align the process with the full jurisdictional landscape—coordinating requirements across the New York City DOB, DOT, MTA, LPC and other applicable agencies to ensure filings, permits, and approvals are anticipated, not reactive.

We work alongside your team to structure competitive bidding, evaluate scope, and ensure you understand both the technical and financial impact—before it becomes a compliance issue.
